Sri Ramana Maharshi, or Bhagavan, as his devotees would refer to him; was born in a small town named Tiruchuli in a southern Eastern State of India, Tamil Nadu on December 30th, 1879 at 01:00 hours (1 a.m. at night) according to the Western calendar. His corresponding date of birth according to the the Tamil, Hindu calendar was; 16th day of Margali of Tamil year Pramadi under the star Purnavasu at night at 1 a.m. which happened to be the Arudra Darshan day for that year.
He left home soon after the age of 16 to arrive at the sacred Mountain, Sri Arunachala on September 1, 1896 and resided at Sri Arunachala until he left this body on 14th April 1950.
